"See if you can just
    get along with your
    horse."

“It seems like a work in progress all of our lives.”
 ---Buck Brannaman
                                  from Groundwork

The trail you journey down that keeps you heading in the direction of good horsemanship is fraught with many obstacles. The least of which has anything to do with the horse.

Frustration. Self doubt. Moments of despair.

You are not alone. Others travel this way and we all have similar laments. Yet there is no turning back to blaming the horse. Not once you realize partnership is possible if you’re willing to put in the effort.

“If it was easy anyone could do it”

---Martin Black
                                            from Ecclectic Horseman

However, it can be frustrating that the things we desire most never seem to come fast enough, no matter what we do.

Here are two poems. I hope you like them.

HUNT THE RAZOR’S EDGE

You take too much!
You give too little.

You do too much!
You don’t do enough.

You try this,
when you should’ve tried that.

What you think you see,
can only be felt.

And what you feel
weighs a ton!

Oh razor’s edge.
How I long to alight,
and stay awhile.

       ---Bonnie Stoehn  2007

I WANNA GET BUCKED OFF!

I wanna get bucked off
so hard and fast
I slam the planet
out of orbit.

I’ll go for gettin’ stomped on
till my feet
look like they’ve graced
Vulcan’s anvil.

Gimme that horse who bites.
Let his long yellow choppers
slice through muscle, bone,
internal organs.

You got one that kicks?
Have him send my head flyin’
so even a Sao Paulo surgeon
wouldn’t know where to start.

I’ll run an ad!
Desperately seeking runaways, flippers,
as rank as they come.
Muey malo diablo caballos!

Line ‘em up.
Let’s get started!
If that’s what it’s gonna take.
